This is a film made to revive the hearts of German football fans, who… will probably have something to say about the new jerseys. As a sacred piece of football culture, a jersey stands for many things but ultimately, it stands for the country it represents on the field. To squash any comment that the Jerseys simply aren’t German enough, ADIDAS asked Sanjay De Silva for an energetic, joyful ode to all the unique quirks that make Germany, Germany!
Age-old stereotypes are then celebrated for what they are, with a subtle wink and absolutely no shame. Through Sanjay’s distinctively dynamic directorial style, a long-beloved tradition is reinvigorated for the modern commercial filmscape.
The film uses unexpected transitions and camera angles to fly between each member of the national team, who all get their moment to shine with typical German dry humour, surrounded by iconic locations and a diverse cast with the aim of showcasing every corner of the German identity. And all of this to answer the question “What is typical German?” with a big fat “You tell us!”
